Moreover, at Daniel’s request the king appointed Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego administrators over the province of Babylon, while Daniel himself remained at the royal court. – Daniel 2:49
An administrator is a person responsible for the activities of running a business or an organisation. It is the go to person regarding all things concerning a business or organisation. The role of an administrator is sometimes minimised to phone calls and paperwork in an organisation. However, this role extends all the way to operations management in an organisation and prime minister in a kingdom. The three Israelites were promoted to the administration of the Babylonian kingdom, while Daniel remained a King’s advisor. In the eyes of the Babylonians, this was an unacceptable act by the king. The king had literally chosen the Israelites to manage the kingdom of Babylon. It’s like appointing an outsider to come and run a family business. However, Babylon was a foreign kingdom God chose to run as an Israeli kingdom, for the chosen Israeli kings after Solomon were dismal failures. The Babylonian king seemed to understand better than the Israelites how to run a kingdom, and therefore God used him to showcase a successfully run kingdom. This was not a first case though that we saw God using His own to manage a foreign kingdom.
Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Inasmuch as God has shown you all this, there is no one as discerning and wise as you. You shall be over my house, and all my people shall be ruled according to your word; only in regard to the throne will I be greater than you.” And Pharaoh said to Joseph, “See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt.” – Genesis 41:39-41
Two things that Pharaoh pointed out regarding Joseph, wise and discerning. The four Israelites were also said to have been found ten times wiser than the wise in Babylon. This is an indication that wisdom is the first and foremost requirement for an administrator. Decisions also need to be made every now and then, which require that one also be able to discern what is good or bad concerning the organisation. Wisdom is a spiritual gift from God. Which means that for an administrator to be effective and efficient in what they do, there has to be a relationship between them and God who grants wisdom. One can have the gift of wisdom as a given gift at a certain measure, but it is the relationship between such a person and God that increases it from level to level, hence the four were ten times wiser than the wise. Pharaoh said there was no man like Joseph in Egypt, hence it was easy for him to appoint Joseph instead of an Egyptian.
Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. – Acts 6:3
When a disgruntlement arose within the church due to the Grecian widows being overlooked during the daily ministration, it highlighted a need for a proper administration. Which is an indication that this is a role that is necessary for an organisation to run smoothly. Again, the Apostles highlight that the men to be chosen for this role ought to have wisdom and have a relationship with God by the Holy Ghost. This means that any organisation needs to have an administrator at a level of a second in charge. However, this very administrator ought to have wisdom, discernment and a relationship with God.
There is no business idea that comes to us out of a ‘light bulb moment’. Every business idea is given to us as a seed planted in our minds by God. This seed is meant to sprout out and bear fruit, fruit which is food for the kingdom of God. The Deacon ministry is an administration ministry. A Deacon is a support system for the Leader of the church. This Deacon is an administrator in business and in some churches. This is a role that as we have already seen requires one to be wise, discerning and in a relationship with God. This administrator is about taking the vision of the leader and manifest it through operations. That is why the Apostles said, we cannot abandon spiritual things to go and serve tables, but seven man of God must be appointed to administer to the needs of the people.
An administrator is crucial in the kingdom of God. While they are usually gifted with an apostolic unction, their role is to support the work of an Apostle; a King or a business leader. However, because they carry a blessing of fruitfulness, the Lord uses them to bring fruitfulness in any vision that He has planted.
Time has come now for the administrators in the kingdom of God to rise up and align themselves with the will of God. It is through this alignment that the Lord will equip His church with ideas that can be turned to fruitfulness. The kingdom of God suffers no hunger, yet the people of God are hungry purely because of ill alignment and lack of understanding. The Lord doesn’t waste His resources, He needs people that’ll ensure proper administration of such.
May the Lord give them strength and wisdom to take their place.
