a sound mind

Is that not something we all wish to have? A mind that is sound is calm, it reasons well, unnerved by anything and can dilute rage or anger with its response of kindness.

We live under conditions that are literally fuel to stress. If we are not suffering from spasms, muscle tension or flu in response to stress, we are suffering from insomnia or different types of headaches. Our daily lives force us to constantly be on a run, chasing after this and that so much that rest is treasure. It’s a benefit that people cannot afford. There is even a saying that ‘sleep is for the dead’. So, to keep awake, people drink alcohol, energy drinks and high caffeinated coffees. Else, they just head straight for drugs. It is an active world of hassling and hasslers do not sleep.

Philippians 4:8 – Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things [are] honest, whatsoever things [are] just, whatsoever things [are] pure, whatsoever things [are] lovely, whatsoever things [are] of good report; if [there be] any virtue, and if [there be] any praise, think on these things.

These things bring about love; peace and joy when one focuses their mind on them. The more one absorbs them, the more content is infused into their minds.

Every single stressed person has their mind on money. How they can make some, more or extra, how they can do well at their workplaces so as to maintain their work position, even to earn that promotion.  All of this purely to maintain or achieve a certain lifestyle or status. So, all this stress is a case of status and lifestyle. It’s like pouring water on the grass expecting it to wash away, instead it grows. When everyone is overworked; overtired; dissatisfied; feeling a certain void and hungry for something they don’t know they become annoyed; irritable and angry. Because of this we have a world full of people who are ready to fight each other, scream or snap at each other or just show each other off.

What can we do?

To one who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also, and from one who takes away your cloak do not withhold your tunic – Luke 6:29

If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat, and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink for in so doing, you will heap burning coals on his head, and the LORD will reward you. – Proverbs 25 21-22

Ecclesiastes 10:4
If the spirit of the ruler rises up against you, don’t leave your place; for gentleness lays great offenses to rest.

These are just examples of what we should be doing when faced with such people. Misery loves company for real. Therefore, it’ll pull towards itself just about anyone who is willing to entertain it. But the bible is full of verses that tell us to respond differently to those who provoke us. Why’s that?

All things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to His purpose. – Romans 8:28

There is a law of life, whatever you do yields a result. Accounting says, for every debit there is a credit. While actions give a result, words form into energy and yield a result. There is nothing under the sun that one can do that they will not be held accountable for, nothing. Bible says there will come a time when we will have to account for every careless word that has left our mouths [Mat 12:36].

An old lady I used to work with, used to say to me – don’t mind anyone forming evil against you for they are heaping the same thing they are doing for their children. Now, this was someone who had understood that, even if they don’t see a person being paid back for their evil, it will still come even on to the generations after them.

Vengeance is mine,  I will repay, says the Lord – Romans 12:19

Everything has been designed in a way that every action yields a result, and the word of God is the word of a King, it stands and He will perform it. So if the rule of life has been set that an action yields a result, if that action deserves God’s vengeance, it’ll yield God’s vengeance. God watches over His own and He hates evil. So you can rest assured that even if it’s a stranger on the road who deals against you, they’ll be repaid for their actions. That is why Jesus said, turn the other cheek. When you do that you are allowing them to heap coal upon themselves.

Even a thief that has stolen is said in Provebs 6:31 that they must repay whatever they stole if they get caught. In Exodus 22:3 it says that should they have nothing to repay they will be sold to enslavement to recoup what they have stolen. This is the God we serve who has designed things this way so that no one is robbed of victory.

With all that said children of God, be at rest with yourself, be careful for nothing and let your mind be sound in all your doings; your responses to others and your actions pertaining to life, knowing that whatever you do will yield a result even what they do to or for you will yield a result, be it good or bad – positive or negative. Do not be tempted to avenge yourself or fight anyone, instead let a godly manner take shape in your heart and manifest the glory of God in the physical. For all things are designed so that He remains God and the one who always takes the glory.
