PASSION

What are you passionate about? What is that one thing that you strongly desire?

‘I have passion for Agriculture’, says a young student. ‘However I am not good at it academically’ The lecturer advised him to take what he is good at, and that which he is passionate about and convert that into his career. He then says ‘I am very good with business management.’ Voile! A career is formed, business management in an agricultural space.

Passion is defined as an intense desire, and a desire is said to be ‘God expressing Himself through you’. God works through us. He uses us to achieve what He needs to achieve. So when you find yourself passionate about something it means God wants to do that something through you. You have been appointed the executor of His will. If then God is with you in your passion, who can be against you?
Usually this passion will come in a form of talent, gift or speciality. It will be something you can easily do with very little or no effort. It can be something others require education and/or formal training on, but you will execute with ease. It will be something you have love for and derive satisfaction from doing it. However, with lack of understanding how this can be turned into a career, most people do it either as a hobby or extramural activity.

Some of those that have turned it to a career fail to nurture it to reap rewards because they will be lacking understanding of its significance to their purpose and relationship with God.

Your passion would have been with you most of your life. It is aligned with your purpose. God then builds characters in us that can handle this passion in order to channel it towards our assignments in life. Once the character and passion are aligned, the journey towards realising your purpose begins.

It is then important to understand or identify your intense desire. Once realised, take it to God to order steps that will build the character to carry it out. God will open doors in areas unimaginable, all for Him to achieve what He wants to achieve through you using your passion.

If it is an intense desire that pushes you away from God, it is then an ungodly passion. So take note of the kind of passion before pursuing it.

Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above; it comes down from the Father of lights [the Creator and Sustainer of the heavens], in whom there is no variation [no rising or setting] or shadow [a]cast by His turning [for He is perfect and never changes]. – James 1:17
