There is absolutely nothing and no one that has power over the life of any human being, except for the human being self. God nor Satan has no power unless authority has been given to either.
However, there are two Spirits that govern in a person’s life. The human being decides which Spirit has the power to govern in their life.
Matthew 6:24 AMP says, “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon [money, possessions, fame, status, or whatever is valued more than the Lord]
God governs by His word, every word that comes out of His mouth. His word is the constitution of His kingdom and recorded in the bible. The Holy Spirit is His voice. When you live according to His word written in the constitution or guidance by His voice you have given Him power to govern in your life. Any behavior not according to His word or against His word is regarded as breaking of His law (word) and bears consequences of a sin.
Satan on the other hand governs by deception. Mammon is his constitution and fear is his voice. ‘Bow down and worship me and I will give you all these’ he said to Jesus in Matthew 4:9 Amp
Now, we cannot have two governors governing in our lives. We cannot have two masters ruling. It is either God or Satan, there is no in between.
He who is not with Me [once and for all on My side] is against Me; and he who does not [unequivocally] gather with Me scatters – Matthew 12:30 Amp
While God is a jealous God, Satan is a deceitful devil. He deceives you to give him governing authority in your life through lack of knowledge and ignorance.
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge [of My law, where I reveal My will] – Hosea 4:6 Amp
Most of the time when one is fully under his deception, will know not the deep things of God according to His word, but the deep things of the world. However, at some point God says enough, and pulls one out of that dark space through trials, that one may be in a better position to choose either to follow Him or continue in the ways of the world knowingly. He gives you through trial free will to choose a governing power.
Have you considered which master you are following knowingly or unknowingly?
